From Moods Op. 73, one of Grieg's final piano collections, Study (Hommage à Chopin) is both a declaration of kinship and an entirely personal work. The influence of Chopin's Études is audible — in the figuration, in the drive — but the voice that emerges is unmistakably Grieg's: poetic, virtuosic, and shot through with a northern light.
