About this release
"Happy Birthday Variations" is the debut album from Extended Place. Fourteen variations on one of the most well-known themes in music history, written by German composer Peter Heidrich, recorded here for the first time in its piano four hands version. Heidrich varies the renowned theme in the styles of the greatest classical composers—Bach, Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Schumann, Brahms, Wagner, Dvořák, Reger—as well as those of the Viennese Waltz, Ragtime, Hollywood, Tango and Hungarian music, giving life to an exciting suite. Marcos Madrigal and Alessandro Stella, after having performed this work in Rome, Paris and at the Habana Clásica Festival in Havana, made a studio recording of it in early 2021.
