About this release
Commissioned by the Late Spring Music Festival at the Reggia di Venaria, "Dialoghi con la Materia" by Vittorio Montalti draws its inspiration from Giuseppe Penone's project "Il Giardino delle Sculture Fluide". A series of 14 musical aphorisms for soprano, cello, and electronics, the work uses the titles of Penone's garden sculptures as textual material, employing processes of fragmentation and repetition to transform words into musical figures. The theme of identity—central to Penone's visual art—is realized through an exploration of the timbral continuum of voice and cello, from spoken text to singing, from noise to sound, from inharmonic to harmonic. The EP is produced with the support of Reggia di Venaria.
The release includes liner notes by the composer Vittorio Montalti, the cellist Claudio Pasceri and a text by Giuseppe Penone from "Scritti" (Electa, 2022).
