New Release: Theme and Three Variations on a Dodecaphonic Series

26 June 2026
Theme and Three Variations on a Dodecaphonic Series is Alessandro Stella's debut as a composer — a work written in the early 2000s while studying composition with Italian composer Marco Di Bari, that has remained unpublished and unperformed until today. Its release marks both a world premiere recording and the first publication of the score. Built on an original twelve-tone series and rooted in the aesthetics of the Second Viennese School, the piece unfolds through a theme and three variations, each transforming the material in a different light — from the rarefied to the explosive — before closing with a sudden, uncompromising gesture: a deliberate homage to Webern's Variations. Coinciding with the digital release, the score is published today by Universal Edition — the historic publishing house of Schönberg, Berg, and Webern. This release is dedicated to the beloved memory of Marco Di Bari.
