Interview — Alessandro Stella on Extended Place

8 July 2024
In a wide-ranging interview for MusicVoice, Alessandro Stella retraces the origins of Extended Place — conceived in 2019 and brought to life just days before the first lockdown — and its guiding conviction: that the content should decide the form of a record, not the other way around. He describes the EP, the extended play, as the ideal “concentrated” format, and his ambition to make every release a record of favourite tracks alone, conceived as a whole down to the order of the pieces, the silences between them and the cover. He also speaks about the team behind the label — graphic designer Javier G. Borbolla and sound engineer Tommaso Cancellieri — and about the figures who inspired him, from Manfred Eicher's ECM to Roberto Calasso's Adelphi and the image of a catalogue as a single, larger book.
